Abstract:
PURPOSE:To collates an accurate current position by performing collation with the road between road nodes which are closest and can be collated without forcible collation when plural object road corners or no corner is present thereon. CONSTITUTION:A control unit 50 displays map data from a compact disk 40 on a liquid crystal display 10, and updates the current position by using sensor data obtained from a vehicle speed sensor 20 and an azimuth sensor 30 and map data, and when plural object road corners or no corner is present thereon in this case, the forcible collation is not performed. Thus, when the forcible collation is not performed, it is checked whether or not a road between road nodes which can be collated in the circle centering on the current point with a radius Dlimit is present thereon and when the road is present thereon, the road between the road nodes which are at the shortest distance is collated forcibly. Consequently, the deviation of the current position from the road is permitted and even when the system travels at a place where all roads are not prepared as data, the current position is accurately collated.
