Abstract:

To stably form a curtain film to edge guides to enable stable, high speed coating by making a contact angle of the edge guides to water the specified one or less when supporting one layer of coating liquid by the edge guides at both side ends thereof.

In curtain coating, a thin film of coating liquid is formed on the surface of a slide by uniformly feeding coating liquid from slits 5, and while this thin film like coating liquid is kept in a thin film state, it is made to fall along a pair of edge guides 6 that plastic material such as polystyrene as well as metals such as stainless steel and aluminum is used and is hit against a supporting body 2 supported on a coating roller 1 and conveyed to perform coating. At this time, a contact angle of the surface in contact with the coating liquid of the edge guides 6 to water is made to be 10 degrees or less. In this way, even if auxiliary liquid is not fed to the edge guides 6, a curtain film 7 can be stably formed to enable stable, high speed coating.
