To make a thick molded product moldable easily and to make such product usable as a substitute for polystyrene foam which is used to form cushioning materials, heat-insulating materials for building materials, sound- absorbing materials and the like by a method wherein thermoplastic resin with microcapsules mixed therein is provided entirely or partly over a small piece of pulp having cavities.
Thermoplastic resin 2 with microcapsules 1 mixed therein is provided eritirely or partly over a small piece of pulp 4 having cavities 3, and a cushioning material is molded therewith. The small piece of pulp 4 is formed at this time in 0.3 or below of bulk specific gravity and in a size passable through a mesh of 1 cm×1 cm. The thermoplastic resin is such that is made up at the softening temperature between 50°C or above and 200°C or below. The microsapsule shall be such that is in a diameter of 5 μm-20 μm and available for several ten times of cubical expansion at the temperature above the softening temperature of the thermoplastic resin and below 200°C. Thereby, a thick molded product in a complicated shape can be easily molded by pressurized vapor, one of heating methods for a molding machine for polystyrene foam.
