To provide a cutoff structure for a radioactive waste disposal site, which easily and positively cuts off a water channel formed in a work area such as a gallery and an excavation influencing area, formed due to construction of the radioactive waste disposal site, and to provide a method of constructing the cutoff structure.
The cutoff structure for the radioactive waste disposal site is set in the work area such as the gallery and the excavation influencing area where the groundwater channel is formed, and a plug 20 for inhibiting flow of groundwater is constructed of timbering 12 consisting of backfill materials 11 generated in the gallery 1, bentonite grout 13 generated in the excavation influencing area, and bentonite segments arranged between the backfill materials 11 and the bentonite grout 13. Then rigid bulkheads 16, 16' are arranged at least on one side of the backfill materials forming the plug, and the gallery 21 of the work area in which the plug is formed so as to have a cross section smaller than the cross section of the other gallery 1.
