PURPOSE: To accurately cut an optical fiber perform in an optimum form by controlling operation of a motor for driving of pulling mechanism by a control means, based on cutting data, etc., previously stored in a storage means and pulling forced detected by a detection means and cutting the optical fiber perform while pulling the perform.
CONSTITUTION: A pulling mechanism 1 is provided in order to pull and cut an optical fiber perform in a prescribed form prior to spinning operation. Then, outside of various optical fiber performs and cutting data such as torque of a driving motor 7 of pulling mechanism 1 and pulling time and characteristic data for dimensions of outside diameter of optical fiber perform to be cut are stored in a storage means. A moving body 11 fixed to a chain 10 is moved while controlling operation of the motor 7 by a control means, based on these data and signals corresponding to the pulling force from a detection means 2, thus a dummy rod 6a of the optical fiber perform is pulled to cut the optical fiber perform in the prescribed form.
