To propose a cutting edge polishing/finishing method by electric-field abrasive grains, which polishes and finishes a cutting edge of a minute tool like a drill and an end mill, an injection needle, etc. to a high grade in a short period of time, and ensures a long life of the cutting edge; to propose a method of producing the minute member with the cutting edge; and to propose the minute member with the cutting edge.
According to the cutting edge polishing and finishing method, the cutting edge of the minute member is set as a rotary electrode, and a rotary electrode surface plate having a machining pad attached to a surface thereof is arranged through mediation of a functional fluid which is prepared by dispersing the abrasive grains having a grain size of 0.1 to 30 μm and electrical dielectric property in a silicone oil having a viscosity of 1 to 1,000 cSt at 20°C, at a concentration of 1 to 50 wt.%. Then an alternating electric field is impressed on the abrasive grains at electric field strength of ± 0.3 to 5 kV/mm and a frequency of 0.1 to 30 Hz, and the minute tool is rotated while a machining surface pressure is applied to the same, to thereby polish and finish the cutting edge.
