To provide a cutting machine capable of easily cutting an arbitrary position of a sidewall portion of a 12-27 liter pail can.

The cutting machine comprises: a hand-held grinder 11 with a drive motor built in its body 11A and with its drive shaft provided at a front end portion of the body as extending perpendicularly to a rotary shaft of the drive motor; a cutting blade 13 mounted on the drive shaft of the hand-held grinder and having a cutting edge formed on its outer periphery; and a mounting base 12 installed on a lower face of the body of the hand-held grinder, recessed to rotatably contain the cutting blade with its cutting edge partially protruding therefrom. The mounting base is provided with safety covers 21, 21' such that they are longitudinally slidable and biased forward by spring members. Preferably, a forward end portion of the safety cover is bent downward and, at the bent portion, an elongated groove 21B' is formed to allow the cutting edge of the cutting blade to protrude when a workpiece to be cut is pressed toward the cutting blade.
