To provide a cutting method of a metal thin plate drum, which shortens the time for shaping the cut end to improve the manufacturing efficiency, cutting the drum to a predetermined width with good accuracy and at good yield, and lengthens the life of an edge tool.
The metal thin plate drum W is held on a holder 5, and rotated with one end of the drum W fixed. Subsequently, the edge tool 7 is pressed to the outer peripheral surface of the drum W to cut and form a metallic ring Y. The edge tool 7 has an edge angle of 50 to 90°. A holder 5 has a groove 8 V-shaped in a section on the outer peripheral surface. The groove 8 is formed so that the distance (a) between the upper edges of both inside walls is 15 to 30 times as large as the board thickness (b) of the drum W, the depth (c) of the deepest part 11 is 1 to 3 times as large as the board thickness of the drum W, and both inside walls 9 have a curved surface 10 having a radius of curvature 10 to 50 times as large as the board thickness (b) of the drum W. At this time, the position of tip of the edge tool 7 cutting into the groove 8 is rather closer from the center (s) of the groove 8 to the non-fixed side of the drum W within a range (f) of the distance one-third as large as the board thickness (b) of the drum W.
