To enable cutting resistance in each distance of a first cutting edge and a second cutting edge to be identical so that the occurrence of forced chatter vibration is prevented.
A method for designing a cutting tool includes: in the plural distances from the tip of the cutting tool edge, a step of calculating the ratio B of the cutting resistance of the first cutting edge in regard to the second cutting edge by formula (1), calculating ratio A2 of the cutting resistance of the second cutting edge and also obtaining A2/B by formula (2), and obtaining the rake angle α1 of the first cutting edge in each of the plural distances by formula (3); and a step of calculating the curve line of the rake angle of the first cutting edge in which all of the obtained rake angles α1 of the first cutting edge are continuously connected; wherein θ1 and θ2 denote lead angles of the first and second cutting edges, φ1 and φ2 pitch angles, α2 the rake angle of the second cutting edge, L the distance from the cutting edge, D the cutting tool diameter, formula (1): B={L(tanθ2-tanθ1)+Dφ1π/360}/{L(tanθ1-tanθ2)+Dφ2π/360}, formula (2): A2=exp(-k×α2), and formula (3): A2/B=exp(-k×α1).
