Abstract:

PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a cutting tool of surface-coated cemented carbide with an abrasion-resistant coat layer having excellent adhesion performance and chipping resistance.
SOLUTION: On the surface of carbonized WC cemented carbide base material having an amorphous layer in a range of 1-50 nm from the surface formed by arc ion plating surface treatment, the abrasion-resistant coat layer is formed by physical vapor deposition. It is composed of (a) a primer tough layer comprising a titanium nitride layer with 0.1-5 μm average layer thickness, (b) a surface hard layer comprising a single layer or plural layers of a composite nitride layer and a composite carbon nitride layer satisfying a composition formula of (Ti1-XAlX)N and a composition formula of (Ti1-XAlX)C1-YNY (X is 0.15-0.65; and Y is 0.5-0.99 in atomic ratio), and having 0.5-15 μm average layer thickness, and (c) an upper hard layer comprising a single layer or plural layers of an Al oxide layer and an Al oxide-zirconium oxide mixed layer comprising zirconium oxide phase dispersed in Al oxide base, and having 0.5-10 μm average layer thickness.
