Title:
CUTTING TOOL WITH WEAR-AND-TEAR SENSOR HAVING INSULATION STRUCTURE
Document Type and Number:
Japanese Patent JP2000094272
Kind Code:
A
Abstract:

To apply a sensor to a cutting tool even if a base material of the cutting tool is a conductive material, by forming a sensor thin film and terminal thin films on a surface of a non-conductive thin film formed on all the surface of the base material.

A sensor thin film 8 and terminal thin films 9, 9 are formed on a surface of a non-conductive thin film 7. The sensor thin film 8 comprises plural fine lines 10 having an even width and lying at even intervals. The plural fine lines 10 for detecting flank wear or chipping are disposed side-by-side in a extending state perpendicular to an advancing direction (f) of the flank wear occurring and growing on a flank, while all the fine lines 10 are connected to each other in parallel at both ends with the terminal thin films (parts) 9, 9 made of a conductive material. In this cutting tool 1 with a sensor, because the non-conductive thin film 7 covers a surface of a base material 2, the sensor thin film 8 made of a conductive material and the terminal thin films 9, 9 can be applied to the surface of the base material 2 even if the base material 2 is made of a conductive material.
