To produce a new compound useful as an agent for peptic ulcer based on selective antimicrobial actions on Helicobacter pylori.
This compound is represented by formula I [R1 is H, OH, a (substituted) lower alkoxy, a lower alkylthio, amino, etc.; R2 is H or a lower alkyl; R3 is an aromatic heterocyclic ring; (m) is 1-3; (n) is 2 or 3; X is S or O] and its salt, e.g. 9-(benzimidazol-2-yl)thio-4-(2-morpholinoethythio)-5H-6,7,8,9- tetrahydrocyclohepta[b]pyridine. The compound represented by formula I is obtained by reacting a compound represented by formula II (Y is a halogen, a lower alkylsulfonyloxy or an arylsulfonyloxy) with a compound represented by the formula R3-SH. The compound is useful even for preventing the recrudescence and relapse of peptic ulcer.
