NEW MATERIAL: A cycloalkylidene derivative of formulae I, II and III (the dotted line indicates an optional additional chemical bond; R1 is C1-4 alkyl or C2-4 alkenyl; R2 and R3 are each methyl or ethyl; R4 is H or R1; X is O, methylene or a chemical bond; m is 0-3, provided that when X is methylene, then m is 1-3, or when X is methylene and R1 is methyl, then m is 2 or 3; n is 0-3).
EXAMPLE: 3,3'-Dimethyl-8-isopropyl-1-oxaspiro[5,5]undecane.
USE: Useful as fragrances. The subject compound can be used to give aromatic property in cosmetic preparations for household and industrial use, washing chemicals, cleansers, etc.
PROCESS: A compound of formula I can be synthesized, for example, by the reaction as shown in the reaction scheme. A compound of formula II can be obtained by reduction of the compound of formula I with a metal hydride complex. A compound of formula III can be obtained by ring closure of the compound of formula II in the presence of an acid catalyst.
