PURPOSE: To obtain a new cyclohexane compound useful as a component for a liquid crystal material capable of actualizing high-speed response.
CONSTITUTION: A compound shown by formula I [[A and B are 1,4-phenylene (one or two CHs may be replaced with N) which may contain one or two substituent groups (F or CN) or 1,4-cyclohexylene; R1 and R2 are 1-16C straight-chain alkyl (one or more hydrogens at the end methyl group may be replaced with F and one CH2 existing in group or two or more nonadjoining CH2O may be replaced with O or ester ester) and further R1 is F, Cl, OCF3 or CN] such as 4-[trans-4-(trans-4-pentylcyclohexyl)-2,2-difluorocyclohexyl]-1-methoxybenzene. The compound is produced from a compound shown by formula II (X is halogen) and a compound shown by formula III through a compound shown by formula IV.
