To obtain a cyclohexanol which is a new compound having voluminous floral perfume and useful as an aromatizing component for toiletry goods such as soap, shampoo, rinse, detergent and cosmetic.
The objective compound is expressed by formula I (R1 to R7 are each H, methyl or ethyl, and the total carbon number of R1 to R7 is ≤3), e.g. the compound of formula II. The compound of formula I wherein R6 is methyl or ethyl can be produced e.g. by reacting cyclohexenone with 2-methyl-1- propenylmagnesium bromide in the presence of a copper catalyst such as a copper halide (e.g. copper iodide), reacting the obtained compound of formula III with a compound of formula R8M (R8 is methyl or ethyl; and M is Li or the like) to obtain a compound of formula IV and reacting the product with water, methanol or ethanol in the presence of an acid catalyst such as sulfuric acid or p-toluenesulfonic acid.
