To obtain a new compound consisting of a specific cyclohexene derivative and useful as a production intermediate for tranexamic acid known as a medicine effective for suppressing the bleeding, itchiness of eczema, etc., congestion and swelling, etc., in tonsillitis, etc.
The objective compound is expressed by formula I, e.g. 4- acetaminomethylcyclohexene-1-carboxylic acid. The compound of formula I can be produced by reacting a compound of formula II [R is H, a (substituted) lower alkyl or the like] with sodium cyanide, etc., in a polar solvent such as water using sodium bisulfite, etc., as a catalyst preferably at 0-50°C, treating the resultant cyanhydrin compound with phosphorus oxychloride, etc., using pyridine, etc., as a solvent preferably at -20 to +80°C to obtain a 4- acylaminomethylcyclohexene-1-carbonitrile of formula III and hydrolyzing the compound with an alkali such as sodium hydroxide by heating in an aqueous solution.
