To provide a cycloolefin addition copolymer excellent in heat resistance, transparency, low water absorption and moldability and capable of forming an optical material having a high linear expansion coefficient (high in temperature response), to provide a process for producing the cycloolefin addition copolymer and to provide a molding material comprising the cycloolefin addition copolymer.
The cycloolefin addition copolymer comprises a monomer unit of (A) a cycloolefin and a monomer unit of (B) a 4-12C α-olefin and has a linear expansion coefficient of 80×10-6/°C or more. The process for producing the cycloolefin addition copolymer comprises copolymerizing a monomer of (A) a cycloolefin and a monomer of (B) a 4-12C α-olefin in the presence of (a) a specific transition metal compound belonging to group IV of the periodic table. The molding material comprises the cycloolefin addition copolymer.
