Abstract:

To effectively reduce thermal quartic distortion generated during actual operation of an engine.

In the cylinder block 20, a thickness TA of a cylinder bore 16A of an intermediate cylinder is thicker than a thickness TB of a cylinder bore 16B of an end cylinder as a whole, and thereby, rigidity of the intermediate cylinder 16A in a cylinder bore cooling process in insertion of a liner is higher than that of the end cylinder 16B. Contraction force of the intermediate cylinder is higher than the contraction force of the end cylinder, and a shape of the cylinder bore of the intermediate cylinder is preferentially kept until cooling is completed, and thereby, generation of thermal quartic distortion of the liner of the intermediate cylinder caused by recession between the bores can be suppressed.
