To determine a cylinder without a mistake and without fuel injection only by signals obtained from the remaining normal sensors, when information obtained from one sensor is abnormal, and to appropriately perform control of ignition timing, fuel injection timing, or the like, without hindrance.
A cylinder determination device includes a signal plate for a crankshaft, a cam signal plate, and a sensor arranged adjacent to outer circumferences thereof. The outer circumference of the cam signal plate is divided into the same number of areas as the number of cylinders, and on the respective predetermined angle positions, a plurality of teeth, projections, and the like, are arranged. Every combination of binarized bit information which is generated by detected parts is set so as to be different for every cylinder. When the sensor arranged adjacent to the signal plate for the crankshaft is determined abnormal, cylinder determination and detection of a reference crank angle are performed only by a signal obtained from the cam signal plate.
