Abstract:
PURPOSE:To facilitate manufacture, and to promote durability, by executing plating pre-treatment to a wall surface of a cylinder hole, by electrodepositing an iron layer on the wall surface by currents with high current density and by producing tortoise- shaped grooves to said iron layer. CONSTITUTION:An iron plating liquid contains 150-250g/l metal iron and 20- 50g/lboric acid, and its pH is 0.2-0.6 and its liquid temperature is 50-80 deg.C. Currents are conducted for 30-60 seconds while using this plating liquid. Thus, an iron layer with 20-80 micron thickness and 500-700 hardness Hv is electrodeposited. A large number of deep, tortoise-shaped grooves 5 are yielded to the iron layer 3. The grooves 5 house matter produced dur to wear and infinitesimal solid matter entering from the outside, and the damage of a sliding surface 6 can effectively be prevented by decreasing friction between the sliding surface 6 and an outer surface of a piston or an outer surface of a piston ring, thus providing a cylinder with excellent durability.
