Abstract:

To provide a cylinder injection spark ignition type internal combustion engine that can feed fuel injected from a fuel injection valve in fully thick state under the restriction on attaching position and direction of the fuel injection valve and can realize stabilized ignition and good combustibility.

Fuel is injected in misty state from a fuel injection valve 11 in compression stroke to the upper space above the top surface 2a of a piston 3. And then fuel is spouted out to the upper space above a recessed part 3b of dish shape at high speed by the squish effect. This powerful spout out action can peel fuel even when it is stuck on the top surface 3a. Thus, almost all fuel is blown away to the upper space above the recessed part 3b of dish shape. And air with low density (shown by dotted line arrows) is dispersed quickly on the upper space above the recessed part 3b of dish shape by pressure drop. But a mixture with high density and high fuel density (shown by solid line arrows) moves straight by a force of inertia and the mixture in dense layer forming can reach a first ignition plug 10a.
