Abstract:

To improve the characteristics of high power, low fuel consumption and low exhaust gas by realizing the uniform combustion of an air-fuel mixture.

This cylinder injection type engine 1 is provided with an injector 21 and a spark plug 22 by side in a bore central part of each cylinder, while it is constituted so as to have an electrode section 22a of the spark plug 22 situated at a higher position of an upper wall of a combustion chamber S than a fuel injection nozzle 21a of the injector 21. With this constitution, a center injection system wherein fuel is sprayed toward a central part of the combustion chamber S from the injector 21, is adopted, while since the electrode section 22a of the spark plug 22 is situated at a higher position of the upper wall of the combustion chamber S than that of the fuel injection nozzle 21a of the injector 21, a spray of the fuel injected out of the injector 21 will not be directly atomized on the electrode section 22a of the spark plug 22 at all. Therefore, the ignition and combustion of an air-fuel mixture by the spark plug 22 are surely and uniformly carried out, and thus improvements in high power, low fuel consumption and exhaust gas characteristics are well promoted.
