Abstract:

To perform stratified combustion by transporting fuel injected from a fuel injection valve mainly by penetration force of fuel spray, to a vicinity of an ignition plug without depending on a cavity on a piston crown surface, in a cylinder injection type internal combustion engine.

The cylinder injection type internal combustion engine includes a fuel injection valve 6 and an ignition plug 4 including an ignition part 4a for igniting fuel injected from the injection valve. The fuel injection valve is constructed to inject fuel in both sides of the ignition part from side of the ignition plug. In compression stroke injection, fuel injected from the fuel injection valve reaches both side of the ignition part and the ignition plug is operated to perform stratified combustion when fuel injected from the fuel injection valve reaches both side of the ignition part and burnable air fuel mixture is formed around the ignition part to perform stratified combustion.
