PURPOSE: To obtain a cylinder liner with a good anticavitation property, sliding property, and anticorrosive property, which can be manufactured easily, by applying a specific alloy plating at the part of the outer circumferential surface of the cylinder liner contacting with a cooling liquid, and forming a nitride layer at the inner circumferential surface.
CONSTITUTION: At the part of the outer circumferential surface 1 of a cylinder liner of a piece-form graphite cast iron equivalent to FC 25, contacting with a cooling liquid, the alloy plating of Ni-B, Ni-P, or Ni-Co-P is applied to cover, and after that, a Tufftride treatment is applied to form a nitride layer 3 on the circumferential surface, and the surface compound layer of the nitride layer 3 where the nitrogen density is high is removed to form a sliding surface 4. The thickness of the alloy plating 2 is desirable at least about 30 μm with respect to the anticavitation property, and although the hardness of the alloy plating is reduced to about Hv 600 when the Tufftride treatment is applied, the anticavitation property is still sufficient.
