PURPOSE: To accomplish a good charge/discharge cyclic operating characteristics by using a negative electrode active material precursor which contains specific vanadium.
CONSTITUTION: A non-aqueous secondary battery is formed from a lithium- containing transition metal oxide in which the precursor of a negative electrode active material of formula I as LipMqV1-qOr contains vanadium with and under four valency in an amount below 5% of the total amount of vanadium, and thereby the battery is equipped with a charge/discharge characteristics with a large discharge capacity and high discharging operation. The transition metal includes from Sc of element No. 21, Ti of 22, and Cr of 24 to Zn of 30, from Y of 39 to Cd of 48, and from La of 57 to Hg of 80. In formula I, V is isotope of atomic valency 2-5, M is one or more transition metal, and p=0-3.1,. q=0-0.7, and r=1.3-4.1. The negative electrode active material precursor is synthesized through the baking process, wherein the temp. of baking should be over 600°C, but preferably below 800°C.
