A variable tumbler abuts on a face corresponding to the key code of the key inserted in an inner peripheral cylinder rotatable in the inner peripheral surface of an outer peripheral cylinder 201, thereby moving the variable tumbler having a peak part inserted in the variable tumbler in the vertical direction. The variable tumbler having the peak part is moved to move a tumbler 233-4 engaged with the peak part of the variable tumbler at an engagement part 233-4b in the vertical direction. With this movement, a recessed part 233-4a is moved in the vertical direction to determine whether locking or unlocking is operated depending on the position of a side bar 251 to the projecting part 251d. The invention can be applied to a cylinder lock, the key code of which is varied.
