PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a cylindrical lithium ion battery of a high battery capacity, which is arranged so that the plastic deformation of copper foil is preferentially caused in an axial direction of an electrode body to suppress the plastic deformation of the copper foil in a circumferential direction of the electrode body, and to prevent the winding deviation of the copper foil and battery short circuit.SOLUTION: A cylindrical lithium ion battery (100) comprises: an electrode body formed in a spiral like shape by stacking a positive electrode material(2) including a positive electrode active material layer and a metal foil and connected to a positive electrode terminal (62), and a negative electrode material (3) including a negative electrode active material layer and a copper foil and connected to a negative electrode terminal with a separator put therebetween and in this state, winding them; and a battery can (6) containing the electrode body. If a width size (W) of the copper foil (32) in a widthwise direction of the copper foil along an axial direction of the cylindrical lithium ion battery before a predetermined number of charge/discharge cycles is 100% when viewed on a cross section including the axial direction, the maximum of a quantity of plastic elongation of the copper foil (32) in the widthwise direction after execution of the predetermined number of charge/discharge cycles is within a range of 1-6% of the width size.SELECTED DRAWING: Figure 3
