Abstract:
PURPOSE: To provide a cylindrical scale for optical encoders having a highly accurate grating pattern.
CONSTITUTION: The peripheral surface of a metallic cylindrical rotating body 1 which rotates around its axis is coated with a resin layer 7. A magnetic film is formed on the peripheral surface of the cylindrical layer 7 by applying and drying a magnetic liquid prepared by dispersing magnetic particles in a resin liquid having a good affinity against the resin used for forming the layer 7 to the surface of the layer 7. Then a desired grating pattern 10 is formed on the surface of the film 9 by magnetic lithography.
