Abstract:

PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To prevent effectively and easily various vibrations of diagonal cables in a cable stayed bridge.
SOLUTION: A cylindrical magnetic material 2 surrounding a part of a diagonal cable 6 portion is surrounded with a distance from the outer periphery of the magnetic material 2. The vibration of a diagonal cable 6 is restricted at a part of the diagonal cable by making use of the attraction force between the cable and a cylindrical magnet 3 fixed to the main girder 7 and the restricted state is released by making use of the reverse force against the attraction force during vibration to change the vibration mode of the diagonal cable. The restriction and release of vibration are repeated alternately to transfer the energy of the primary vibration mode to a high order and prevent the promotion of vibration and also reduce steady vibrations.
