The damper according to this embodiment includes a cylinder, a rod, a magnetic viscous fluid, and a magnetic field generating means, and the damping force between the cylinder and the rod is changed by changing the magnetic field generated by the magnetic field generating means. The rod is inserted to be able to make reciprocating motions relative to the cylinder. The magnetic viscous fluid is encapsulated in the cylinder, and the viscosity varies according to a change in magnetic field. The magnetic field generating means having a coil generates a magnetic field and includes a magnetic substance able to allow the magnetic force to remain.
