To provide a compact damping device providing a favorable damping function irrespective of the direction of relative displacement.
The damping device is interposed between two members to damp vibration. It includes a damper absorbing energy of the vibration by extending and contracting in a predetermined direction and having one end in the predetermined direction fixed to one member of the two members, and an end holding member fixed to the other member of the two members and holding the other end in the predetermined direction of the damper so as to freely slide in two orthogonal directions in a plane of a direction orthogonal to the extending and contracting direction of the damper. The end holding member includes a flat roller allowing relative movement in the two orthogonal directions of the other end of the damper between the other end of the damper and the other member.
