Abstract:
PURPOSE: To select combination of damping force characteristics in extension and contraction sides from two combinations, in a damping force adjusting hydraulic shock absorber.
CONSTITUTION: A piston 3 is fitted to a cylinder 2. Main oil passages 6 are provided in the piston 3. A bypass passage 9 is provided along a piston rod 4, to provide check valves 11, 12 in the bypass passage 9. Oil passages 13, 14 and ports 15, 16, bypassing the check valves 11, 12, are provided. Opening parts 18, 19, formed of respective large and small different opening parts matched with the ports 15, 16, are provided in a shutter 17. In accordance with a rotational angle of the shutter 17, passage areas of the oil passages 13, 14 are adjusted by respectively matching the ports 15, 16 with the opening parts 18, 19. At the time of extension stroke, the check valve 11 is closed to generate damping force by the oil passage 13, and at the time of contraction stroke, the check valve 12 is closed to generate damping force by the oil passage 14. Thus by switching a size of the opening parts 18, 19 matched with the ports 15, 16, combination of damping force characteristics in extension/contraction sides can be switched.
