To provide a damping water composition for a planographic printing plate capable of being used in place of an isopropyl alcohol type composition, comfortable and safe from an aspect of work environment, excellent in printing stability, developing good and stable printability under the condition of a member rotating at a high speed, developing printability good in stability with respect to various inks and capable of obtaining excellent printed matter.

The damping water composition for the planographic printing plate contains polyvinyl pyrrolidone, a compound represented by general formula (I) (wherein, R is an n-butyl group, an isobutyl group, a tert-butyl group or a see-butyl group and n is an integer of 1 or 2) and a compound represented by general formula (II) (wherein, m is an integer of 1-3).
