To prevent data from being left unrecorded because of a time lag at switching the disks by switching recording media at high speed in a simple process when data of images, sound or the like are alternately recorded/ reproduced on two disks.

The apparatus has a write data bus 32 for transmitting data from a data input part, a reproduce data bus 33 for transmitting data to a data reproduce part, a first communication control part 37 for switching to output data of the write data bus 32 to a first or a second recording medium, a second communication control part 43 for switching to output data of either the first or the second recording medium to the reproduce data bus 33, a single main control part 38 for receiving a data write request from the data input part 45 and a data reproduce request from the data reproduce part 46 and moreover, controlling the first and second communication control parts 37 and 43 in accordance with the requests.
