PURPOSE: To reduce the process cost for machine translation by translating the retrieval result of a data base by a means suitable to its representation style for each part which differs in the representation style.
CONSTITUTION: An English retrieval key word is specified and inputted through an input/output part 1, and translated by an English-Japanese translation part 2 into a Japanese key word. The translation result is used as a key to retrieve the Japanese data base 3. A selection part 4 divides the retrieval result into a fixed form part, a key word list part, and a data contents part; and the fixed form part is sent to a pattern conversion part 5, the key word list part is sent to a key word translation part 6, and the contents part of data is sent to a Japanese-English translation part 7 respectively to control translation into English. Thus, each of parts which differ in representation style is translated by a method suitable to the style, so the load on the part 7 is lightened, the translation cost is reducible, and accurate translation becomes possible.
