Abstract:
PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a data coding/decoding method by which a sufficient compression rate can be ensured with a memory whose capacity is saved for image data, the color of which is frequently changed for a short period, which have recently been used in many fields, to provide a coder/decoder, image data recording system and a recording medium that records the method.
SOLUTION: This coder 17/decoder 18 receives one run length value L. Let the case that the value L is coincident with a just preceding run length value in the same color be an event P and the case that the value L is not coincident, be an event Q, then a code denoting the value L is generated on the occurrence of the event Q. On the other hand, on the occurrence or the consecutive occurrence of the event P, a number of replication code corresponding to the number of replications N that is the consecutive occurrence number of the event P is generated.
