This data compressor has a total luminance sum arithmetic means 12 that discriminates code vectors, the difference of total luminance sums of which is greater than a 1st threshold, to be disimilar vectors and with a space distance arithmetic means 13, that discriminates code vectors whose space distance is greater than a 2nd threshold value to be unsimilar vectors. The data compressor outputs a code stream, corresponding to both the code vectors as an updated code stream, which are discriminated and unsimilar code vectors by the total luminance sum arithmetic means 12 and the space distance arithmetic means 13, so as to discriminate the similarity between code vectors with higher accuracy than the case with discriminating the similarity by only either of the arithmetic means.
