PURPOSE: To realize the input of an optional pattern, symbol and mark as well as the symbols and characters of optional thickness and sizes, by fetching the shifting amount of an operation pen in the form of the input pattern data.

CONSTITUTION: A data input device 1 has a key input mode where the input given from a keyboard 3a is accepted and a pattern/mark mode where the locus of an operation pen 9 is accepted as the input pattern data. These two modes are switched by means of a mode switching key 7. For the constitution of a keyboard 3a contains a resistance sheet 36 having conductor patterns 35.37 at both ends of a substrate 38. Then a net type spacer 34 is laminated on the sheet 36 and a resistance sheet 33 having conductor patterns 31 and 32 at its both ends is laminated on the upper side surface of the spacer 34. In this case, two types of conductor patterns 31.32 and 35.37 are arranged orthogonally to each other. In the key input mode the key signals are supplied by the intersecting point signal of a resistance set in response to the key position. In the pattern/mark input mode the key signals are supplied with the positional change of the intersecting point signal of a resistance set in response to the locus of the pen 9.
