PURPOSE: To print and output with different types of a printing device by substituting a function for a program when printing and outputting are executed to a printing device to be unable to the function designated in printing data.

CONSTITUTION: A data printing system is composed of a central processing unit 1, a main memory device 2, a printing device 3, a magnetic disk device 4 of an auxiliary memory device and interfaces 5, 6. On the main memory device 2, a printing device recognizing routine 21 to realize a printing device recognizing means, a printing data reading routine 22 to realize a printing data reading means, a printing data reading converting routine 23 to realize a printing data converting means and a printing routine 24 to realize a printing means are stored. At the magnetic disk device 4, a printing data file 41, printing device type information 42 and device function information are stored. Thus, the operator can prepare a printing data file without being conscious of the type of the printing device to print and output.
