A volume table of contents 5 consisting of information of data names, attributes, storage areas, etc., of data stored in an extended storage device 2 is generated, and processings such as save, restore, copy, deletion, display, comparison, etc., of data in the extended storage device 2 are performed as one logical set, and therefore, processings of all data in the extended storage device 2 are collectively and efficiently performed. In this case, the management directory which the operating system 9 has is used for the volume table of contents 5.
