Title:
DATA PROCESSOR
Document Type and Number:
Japanese Patent JPS59117657
Kind Code:
A
Abstract:
@ A data processing apparatus capable of operating in a plurality of modes includes a technique for automatically determining the proper mode from user inputs. User inputs, such as those from an ordinary keyboard, are stored in an input buffer (312) until an end-of-entry input (303, 307 and 311) is received. An editing end-of-entry input (303 and 307) causes the apparatus to test if a program line number is stored in the input buffer (304 and 308) and if so to enter a program line entryiedit mode. An ordinary end-of-entry input (311) causes the aparatus to test if the input buffer stores a program line (313) and if so enters the program line entry/edit mode (314). lf no such program line number is found, the apparatus tests for an initial keyword (316), a plurality of equal signs (319) or a single nonfinal equal sign (320) within the input buffer and if any of these are found the apparatus enters an immediate execution mode (317). In all other cases the apparatus enters a calculator function mode (321). This invention is most applicable to small handheld or desk top data processing apparatuses which may operate in one mode like a calculator and which include provisions for entering, editing and running programs in a higher order language.
