To provide a data reception method where by dubbing automatically received multimedia data on a video tape so as to save the capacity of a data storage means.
Multimedia data received through a public telephone line are stored once in a data storage means, and the multimedia data are read from the data storage means and converted into data with a signal form (NTSC or PAL or the like) of a video tape recorder (step A1) and the converted data are fed to a video tape recorder. Then a video control means outputs a video recording start control signal to an actuator that mechanically controls the video recording operating section of the video tape recorder (step A2), and at a prescribed time elapses after the start of video recording by the video tape recorder (step A3), the video control means outputs a video recording end control signal (step A4).
