To provide a data recording method and data reproducing method by which convenience of management of a plurality of storage media is improved when they are utilized, and even if the storage medium is delivered to a third person, the third person cannot read recorded data using only the storage medium.
In a recording and reproducing apparatus 100, a semiconductor memory card recording/reproducing device 200 records table-of-contents (TOC) information into a TOC recording area of a semiconductor memory card 60 for one-time writing or rewriting having an information recording area and the TOC recording area, and the TOC information can be separately recorded also on a disk-type storage medium 500 by a disk-type storage medium recording/reproducing device 300, so that data cannot be reproduced with only the semiconductor memory card 600.
