PURPOSE: To make an equalizing circuit to be adaptable in accordance with the fluctuation of a data reproduction system and to enable corresponding even at the time of mutiple tracks by changing the adaptive equalizing characteristic of an adapting circuit at the time of the special pattern of a recording medium.
CONSTITUTION: Data recorded in a magnetic tape 101 is inputted to A/D converting circuits 109, 110 and a differentiation circuit 104 through a head 102 and a preamplifier 103. After a signal from the circuits 109 and 110 is converted into a single signal by a subtracting circuit 111, its waveform is formed by a tranversal filter consisting of delaying circuits 116 to 119, multiplying circuits 125 to 129 and an adding circuit 133, outputted from an adaptive equalizing circuit 112 discriminated by a data discriminating circuit 113. The circuit 112 executes an adaptive operation in accordance with a coefficient set in its inside. A peak pulse interval monitoring circuit 108 generates the cycle detection window signal of the special pattern recorded in the tape, the adaptive equalization of the circuit 112 is changed and an adaptive operation suitable for the recording medium is enabled.
