PURPOSE: To readily select a letter without using a code table by equipping a nonvolatile memory capable of storing graphic code numbers and embroidery data, another nonvolatile memory capable of readably storing words having a high activity ratio and embroidery data corresponding thereto and letter keys capable of inputting novel words and capable of selecting the stored words.
CONSTITUTION: In cataloging a desired word, the code numbers of the single kanjis constituting the above-mentioned word are selected and embroidery data corresponding to the above-mentioned single kanji code numbers are read out from the first nonvolatile memory storing graphic character numbers and embroidery data corresponding thereto and once stored into an RAM of the embroidery machine. The file number and the single kanji code numbers of the above-mentioned word are simultaneously written using the letter keys in an area of a table of word contents in the second nonvolatile memory. Further a table of single kanji contents is read from the above- mentioned second nonvolatile memory and the single kanji code number and the leading address of a space area of the embroidery data area are written in the table of single kanji contents in case the relevant single kanji is not found therein. In this case, the embroidery data of the above-mentioned single kanji are simultaneously written by using the above-mentioned address as a standard.
