PURPOSE: To provide a DC motor in which torque can be regulated without causing useless power consumption in such a case where the torque exceeds a rated level at the time of rated rotation if starting torque is satisfied.

CONSTITUTION: A connection switching unit (corresponding to a switching means) 11 for connecting coils while switching in series or parallel is disposed between each opposing coil pair U1, U2, V1, V2, and W1, W2 among six coils U1, U2, V1, V2, W1, W2 arranged radially on a slot type stator. When a DC motor is started, the coil pairs U1, U2, V1, V2, and W1, W2 are connected in parallel and they are eventually switched to series connection prior to reaching rated speed of the DC motor after start thereof.
