PURPOSE: To obtain the de-oxidizing agent which is fast in the rate of oxygen removal and is inexpensive and practicable by using caron-iron alloy of much graphite content as the base for the de-oxidizing agent.
CONSTITUTION: Carbon-iron alloy of graphite content of 0.5% or more and preferably 1% of more which is cast iron such as heat treated self-cast iron, grey cast iron, etc. is subjected to heat treatment of heating to 200 to 1500°C then air cooling or slow cooling to be made to graphitized Fe3C and preferable graphite shape, whereby it is made as the base for the de-oxidizing agent. In using this, this is ground to fine particles of 10 mesh or under, preferably 150 mesh or under and the amount of water to be added in 50 parts or under, perferably 5 to 30 parts based on 100 parts of the carbon-iron alloy of much graphite content. This de-oxidizing agent provides the practicable and inexpensive chemical through reaction acceleration characteristic between oxygen and water that the base itself possesses without using ferrous metals such as costly pure iron, etc., hard-to-water-soluble fillers such as active carbon, electrolyte.
