Abstract:

PURPOSE: To reduce computing quantity and to compress a circuit scale by performing motion vector search up to an extent of one picture element accuracy by using the present frame and a preceding frame, and performing the motion vector search for decimal accuracy by using obtained information.
CONSTITUTION: A moving image is inputted from Input in an encoding processing order, and it is supplied to a first motion vector searching part 14, a second motion vector searching part 15, and an encoder part 12 in unit of block of 16 picture elements × 16 lines. The retrieval part 14 generates one picture element accuracy motion compensation predictive image at every block for each one picture element accuracy candidate vector in a searching range, and calculates a predictive error evaluation value by comparing it with an input block. All obtained predictive error evaluation values MAE are supplied to the second motion vector searching part 15. The searching part 15 estimates each half picture element accuracy candidate vector in the searching range at every block by using the predictive error evaluation value obtained by the motion vector searching part 14. A candidate vector with the minimum predictive evaluation value is selected, and it is supplied to the encoder part 12.
