Abstract:
PURPOSE: To provide a variable length code(VLC) decoder capable of simultaneously processing VLC bit streams supplied from two separated channels. CONSTITUTION: This decoder is provided with a first storage means and a second storage means for storing continuous two fixed length segments, a first selection means for selecting the fixed length segment from one of the storage means and selecting a first or second window control signal, a barrel shifter 30 for generating a decoding window output sequence provided with the same bit length as the longest length of a variable length code word, a memory means for generating code word length output corresponding to a decoded variable length code word, a second selection means for generating a first or second decoding word and code word length output, accumulator means 62 and 64 for adding the code word length output to cumulative code word length output and a control means for enabling simultaneously decoded two mutually different VLC bit streams based on the first and second window control signals and first and second look-ahead signals.
