Abstract:

PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To suppress the time-based spread of image quality degradation in the case that a decoding error due to the bit error of an encoded bit stream is generated in the encoding method and decoding method of digital moving image signals.
SOLUTION: Based on two motion vectors simultaneously decoded by a variable length code decoding means 101, a motion compensation means A105 and the motion compensation means B110 motion-compensate respectively corresponding decoded frames and generate two prediction images relating to a present processing picture element block. A prediction image selection means 111 selects only the prediction image not provided with the decoding error from the two prediction images and uses it for reconstituting the present processing picture element block. Since the prediction image provided with the decoding error is not used for reconstituting the picture element block, the time-based spread of the image quality degradation by the decoding error to succeeding frames is minimized.
